Stability of periodically supported slender structures and quantification of helix formation

This paper investigates the configuration of periodically located cylindrical supports in order to impede buckling and/or failure slender structures undergoing compression. is done through parametric studies using a developed finite element model, along with algorithms that consider geometric transition from sinusoidal helical configuration. Thus phenomena structure quantified. Presented model validated against experimental data. It shown proper periodic supports, they can provide stability similar continuous support. The continuously supported well described analytically, thus this research holds case up one design guide based on analytically calculated parameters.
